Titan II

We visited the Titan II Missile silo in Green Valley on our last day in Arizona. It was so cool! We couldn't believe how huge the missile was. We were able to tour the facility including the control room which still has all the original equipment from the 1960s. The missile went 150 feet down into the earth. The walls were 8 feet thick at the top of the silo and 4 feet at the bottom. The silo was built to withstand a nuclear attack from within a mile of it's location. It is so crazy to think how powerful those bombs are and how quickly our whole world could be destroyed (within 90 minutes-according to our tour guide.)

That's right. I'm in control now....hee hee hee ha ha ha.

Looking down into the silo from ground level.

Looking down one of the long corridors. They had a 4 person crew manning the station at all times. They worked 24 hour shifts.

Adam at the viewing deck, from the control room level. It was awesome to see the missile up close.
